The heat of World celebration of Anaesthesia Day 2024 is coming to its peak as we are approaching the 16th October. This year we are celebrating World Anaesthesia Day with the theme of ‘workforce well-being’. Well-being is outlined in the World Health Organization (WHO) constitution in which “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at HRPZ 2 is not left behind to follow national and international organizations and hospitals collaborating to host various events on this remarkable day. With the help of our enthusiastic Doctors and paramedics to ensure our activities' success, we are grateful to organize an officiating ceremony to celebrate World Anaesthesia Day celebration on 3rd October 2024, last Thursday, in the ACC auditorium, HRPZ II.

This is our second event in conjunction with celebrating World Anaesthesia Day 2024 after The Biggest Loser Challenge.

Huge thanks to the organizing committee and the generosity of the Hospital director' office for participating in and officiating at the ceremony. Honorable guests includes Hospital Director Dr. Izamin Bin Idris, Deputy director 1 Dr. Puteri Nurbaya binti Mohamed Ismail, Deputy director 2 Dr. Tengku Annas Fathy b. Tengku Ahmad and deputy director 3 Dr Norhana Bt. Mohamed Fadz.

We began the ceremony with an opening greeting by our brilliant emcee, Dr. Amirah. This was followed by a dua recitation by our respected medical assistant, En Faizol.

Afterwards, we proceeded to the main course event: a CME presentation titled Lifting the Weight: Obesity in Anaesthesia by our phenomenal anaesthesiologist, Dr Hafizah Arif. The presentation touched on obesity, the risks, and associated morbidity posed when a patient underwent anaesthesia.

Shortly after, we move on to the officiation ceremony. Initially, the honourable programme director, Dr Samsul Puzizer, gave a speech about the activities and upcoming programme planned to celebrate World Anaesthesia Day.

Later, we called upon our esteemed hospital director, Dr Izamine, to give a speech. He spoke regarding the importance of implementing workforce wellbeing as this year's theme not only in the department of anaesthesia but also in other departments and the whole hospital. He then officiated the ceremony with a video gimmick by intubating the mannequin.

Despite many hurdles during the preparation, we learned that teamwork needs time and dedication. Our department staff members recognized this potential skill, and many talents were brought forward.

Moreover, we proudly present the new Dikir Barat group ‘Sri Neostigmine’, performed by our medical staff, who mesmerize the audience with their moving and euphonic performance. The ceremony concluded with a video montage of the preceding World Anaesthesia Day events.

Despite the fact that the Anesthesia team in HRPZ 2 prioritizes patient safety and is dedicated to ensuring a painless and comfortable experience for every patient undergoing surgery or medical procedures, we also hope that by organizing various events and activities, we will raise awareness among healthcare professionals and the public about the significance of Anesthesia and the need to be well to provide optimal patient care.

The heat does not end there, as it will be continued with the up and coming FUN RUN held on 12th October 2024 at AEON Kota Bharu Kelantan in collaboration with Hari Sukan Negara Malaysia. Also, we will be providing many interesting booths to educate the community about anesthesia. Not to forget how to correct information could erase the misnomer of ‘ditidurkan’ which we wrongly understood by the community.
